Q&A

Lou luna, brand

The brand owner gives us an insight into her sustainable clothing brand of western and bohemian style.

Interview date: 17th June 2024.

TYG: Hi Lou, we last caught up with you a couple of years ago for the magazine. Please can you give our readers a recap on yourself and your background.

Lou: Hi, I'm Lou, a 25-year-old fashion enthusiast and the founder of LOU LUNA, a sustainable clothing brand that I run with my fiancé, Jordan, who is also the brand's director. I have always loved fashion since I was a young girl, and I always dreamed of creating my own clothing line. Over the years, I became increasingly aware of the negative environmental impact of the fashion industry and wanted to encourage people to shop more sustainably. This led to the creation of LOU LUNA. I studied creative direction at the London College of Fashion, which played a significant role in helping me build the brand.

TYG: Tell us about your brand 'Lou Luna'.

Lou: LOU LUNA is a sustainable clothing brand that blends western and bohemian styles into timeless pieces with an American twist. Our designs strike the perfect balance, offering a subtle yet distinct aesthetic. The inspiration came from my desire to create a versatile, timeless wardrobe filled with items I found myself frequently wearing or needing. Each piece can be styled in multiple ways, all while maintaining our commitment to sustainability.

TYG: What was your inspiration behind the brand?

Lou: I was inspired to create a brand that seamlessly blends bohemian and western styles while remaining highly wearable for everyday occasions. Whether you're heading to work or meeting friends for drinks, our pieces are designed to be versatile and stylish. I also wanted to offer a chic, sustainable option that appeals to a broader audience. Many sustainable brands cater to a specific niche, but I aim to show that sustainability can be fashionable and accessible to everyone. Additionally, I noticed that while some brands have great designs, their sustainability efforts fall short. I wanted to address this by providing stylish, sustainable clothing at an affordable price.

TYG: What three words would describe Lou Luna perfectly?

Lou: Timeless, Effortless, American

TYG: Tell us a bit about the Lou Luna girl. Who is it targeted at?

Lou: The Lou Luna girl is confident, fearless, and unapologetically herself. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. She doesn't follow trends blindly but instead curates her own unique style. Her confidence comes from within, and she knows that feeling good is the key to looking good. Lou Luna is for the girl who embraces her individuality and carries her looks with confidence.

TYG: Sustainability has become an extremely important part of brands' ethos. How does it play a part in your brand?

Lou: Sustainability has been a core value for us from the very beginning. We ensure that all our clothes are made from 100% cotton and use biodegradable packaging. We're constantly seeking new ways to enhance our sustainability practices. Additionally, we've introduced the CHANGE charity program, where every three months we select a different charity and donate 2% of our sales to them. By partnering with environmental and animal charities, we aim to raise awareness and provide support to these important causes.

TYG: What are your future goals with the brand?

Lou: Our future goals for the brand include enhancing our sustainability efforts even further. We are also working on introducing more statement pieces, such as jeans and blazers, with a sustainable approach. Additionally, I envision hosting a pop-up event in Notting Hill to give people a chance to experience the LOU LUNA brand in person and share our unique style with a wider audience.

TYG: Do you have any favourite pieces from the new collection?

Lou: Absolutely! I find myself reaching for the Tour T-shirt quite often. If I could pick two more, I'd say the white LOU LUNA logo T-shirt is an everyday essential—classic, crisp, and perfectly fitting. I also adore the Arizona graphic top. It's tough to choose just one favourite from the collection!
